EMS training for the month was our annual CPR refresher. CPR is required to be renewed every 2 years. PVFD runs an in house CPR class every January splitting the department into two groups recertifying every other year. This month we also started our annual EMT class. This is the third in house class that PVFD has been able to offer to train members to the standards set by the Pennsylvania Department of Health to staff an ambulance. Bringing this class in house has allowed us to quickly boost our roster of volunteers in order to provide service to the community!

Individual station fire training for the month had each station doing annual SCBA renewals. PVFD requires all interior qualified firefighters to review and recertify on our SCBA each year.

Joint department fire training for the month was a review of the foam trailer housed as station 405. PVFD is in a joint effort with Lafayette Fire Company and Stevens Fire Company to house the county's 3 foam trailers. The program is overseen by Lancaster County Emergency Management Agency and Lancaster County Haz Mat Team which utilizes staffing the foam trailers in different parts of the county in order to quickly deploy to different areas of the county should the need arise.

On January 19th as Lancaster County was getting our first significant snowfall of the year, PVFD Ambulance 402 was at the local coffee shop our on duty crews visit regularly. The crew from Ambulance 402 was approached by a motorist who was on the way to the hospital with his wife who was in active labor. Crews assisted the patient into the ambulance and began transport to Women's and Babies Hospital. Met with additional crews from PVFD EMS and Penn Med 1 (Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health Pre-Hospital Physician) in route, PVFD EMS staff was able to assist with the delivery of a baby girl prior to arrival at the hospital! We have been notified since both mom and baby are doing well!

On January 30th PVFD was dispatched to assist Bird in Hand Fire Company station 41 on a restaurant fire. Engine 403, Truck 403, Special Unit 403, Tanker 405, Squad 405, the Duty Chief, Ambulance 401 and Ambulance 404 all made the response. Bird In Hand's Engine 411 was able to make a response on dispatch with an in station crew and arrived on scene moments after dispatch with fire through the roof. Crews encountered a fire in the kitchen which extended into the attic and through the roof of the restaurant. Truck 403 was the first arriving special service and took the Charlie side of the building sending a crew to the roof. Engine 403's crew was assigned the task of assisting Engine 411s crew checking for extension in the dining area and then in the kitchen area opening up for fire attack. Tanker 405s crew initially sent to staging was then assigned assisting with overhaul operations. Crews from Special Unit 403, Ambulance 401 and Ambulance 404 assisted with rehab.
