PVFD had two companywide EMS training In April. The first was a joint sponsored training with Penn State Health and Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health on "Understanding Midwifery and Pre-Hospital Births in PA". This training was hosted both in person at our station and online with attendees from all-over south-central PA. The second was a "12 Lead EKG for the BLS Providers". In an effort to continue increasing our services to the community in providing the highest level of care possible our EMTs were recently approved to conduct EKGs on patients with suspected cardiac issues. The department is required to offer this lecture and skills lab to all members who ride the ambulance before the department can start offering this service on calls.
Two Fire trainings were held this month. The first was on lithium battery fires and the second was on riding assignments for members on vehicle accidents and vehicle fires.
Outside of running calls April was a very busy month for our crews. The fire division had 3 pre-arranged standbys for neighboring agencies who took time off for events such as company awards banquets and all-day training events. The EMS division participated in a public education event at a local amish school, a Farm Safety Day event at Intercourse Fire Company and provided a EMS standby for the local area fire departments essentials class final burn day. April also had us hosting our annual Chicken BBQ.
April also brought an opportunity for us to recognize some of our hard working EMS members for their time in 2024. For the last three years we have taken a group of our top contributing members on a trip. Throughout the year we track categories such as most volunteer weekend hours, top night time call responder, top EMS events and most training hours. This year the "winners" were treated to an extended weekend in Virginia. Thursday was spent walking around Washington DC and Arlington National Cemetery. Friday was a rainy day and was spent hanging around the Airbnb and then the evening was spent at Topgolf. Saturday the group spent the morning at Great Falls National Park going for a hike and the afternoon was spent with a team bonding activity with an escape room! The trip finished out Sunday morning with fellowship over a large continental style breakfast. |
