For the month of July, in place of our monthly in-house EMS training we hosted an EMS update meeting. This meeting was led by the EMS leadership team where the members were provided an update on general operation of the EMS division. We have had a lot of changes the last few months with increasing our services from Basic Life Support to Intermediate Advance Life Support, so it was a good opportunity let the membership know how things have been working out with that, as well as share some updates on some up-and-coming things for the department, like the development of our own EMS training center. Individually we had several members who continue to work on their crew chief training, annual continued education for certification and impromptu skill labs for on duty crews throughout the month.
Two department run Fire trainings were held this month. Both nights were focused on vehicle rescue operations. The first evening was spent working on the crews skills with basic operations on calls focused around stabilization/cribbing on vehicles. The second evening expanded on the previous training taking a more in-depth scenario with complex vehicle position for stabilization and entrapped patients that needed to be extricated from the vehicles. July also allowed us for three fundraising/public relation opportunities. The first was one of our regular breakfast buffet fundraisers. Thank You to all that came out to support us. The second was we had the privilege of facilitating a show-and-tell presentation from the Penn Medicine Prehospital Physician Response Team, "Penn Med 1", for the Paradise Township Supervisors at their monthly workshop meeting. This innovative program brings highly trained physicians directly to the scene of critical medical emergencies, supporting EMS crews with advanced procedures and life-saving interventions in the field. The best part, this service is offered FREE through a fellowship program with Penn Medicine. Currently, Penn Med 1 is the only Prehospital Physician Response Team offered in Lancaster County. The third was an opportunity to cover Cochranville Fire Company (Chester County station 27) while their members took the night off to help with their own fundraiser for their department. Pumper Tanker 405 stood by for the evening with Bart Township Fire Company's Squad 51 with no calls for service rendered. |
