There was no companywide EMS training in September due to the holiday. Individually, several members continued progressing through crew chief training, completed annual continuing education for certification, and participated in impromptu skill labs during duty shifts throughout the month.
For the month of September there were two companywide trainings. The first was a review of chimney fires and the equipment carried on the tower to handle these incidents. We reviewed several types of chimney liners and how to handle each one. The second was a safety walk through of Myers Quarry - Paradise. Every year our crews meet up with the safety team at the Quarry and go throughout the property to discuss safety considerations, concerns and talk through types of incidents that would be common to happen and how to handle each one.
In addition to training, September provided several opportunities for fundraising and community engagement:
September we hosted two fundraising events. The first was a breakfast buffet at our Kinzer station and the second was our annual Fall sale at our Gordonville station. Thank you to all of those who came out and supported!
There were 10 community relation events in September which included multiple EMS standbys at the PV High School Football games, an EMS standby for the Bird in Hand 5k and 1/2 Marathon, EMS standby for Bank of Bird in Hands customer appreciation picnic, an open house for our neighbors at Intercourse Fire Company and Cherry Crest Farms Hometown Hero's Festival.
This month we also participated in paying respects to three local police officers who were killed in the line of duty. Multiple police, fire and EMS agencies lined Route 222 and Route 30 throughout Lancaster County as the officers were transported from York County, through Lancaster County up to Lehigh County and then again back to York County. Tower 40 staged with Manheim Township Fire Rescue Engine 202 on Hunsicker Road over Route 222 in Manheim Township to pay their respects. |
