January's had two companywide EMS training. The first was our annual skills review. The second was a combined training with the fire division working on lifting and moving patients. This was a good refresher for our EMS and allowed us to show the firefighters who may be called for lift assist how the difference devices we have to move/carry patients operate. Individually, several members continued progressing through crew chief training, driver training, completed annual continuing education for certification and participated in impromptu skill labs during duty shifts throughout the month.
For the month of January there was one companywide fire training which was the lifting and moving with the EMS division.
January also brought the start of our first official fully in house EMT class. PVFD has been working hard the last three years to build up a pool of instructors and equipment and last fall we were approved by the Department of Health to become our own EMS Training Institute. The students will take the next 5 months learning the skills to be able to test for their EMT certification.
This month we were also able to hold our annual membership appreciation banquet. This provided an evening for our members to take off and be recognized and rewarded for all their hard work in 2025. |
